Great Hall Partners, the contractor in charge of overhauling Denver International Airports' great hall has been issued 2 breach of contract notices. Great Hall Partners are being accused of safety violations and not meeting their minority quota promised when they put in their bid. The safety violations include escalators between the airport train platform and the terminal’s main floor that have been out of operation for seven weeks and two baggage carousels that remain hidden behind temporary construction walls that DIA officials say should have been taken down weeks ago. Great Hall Partners also promised to hire 33% minority and women-owned firms to do work in the great hall when they put their bid in but have only hired 8% of those firms. Great Hall Partners deny these claims saying, "We are disappointed by — and completely disagree with — the mischaracterizations and false allegations made in these letters." Another concern of DIA is weak concrete that makes up most of the main terminal floor that needs to be fixed. Great Hall Partners blame DIA and say the fix could run up 50% of the budget and add 3 more years to the overhaul. Both DIA and Great Hall Partners will be in mediation for the rest of the summer trying to find a resolution.
